Just another Manic Monday .....

I wish it were a Sunday, 'cause that's my fun day, my I don't have to run day

Okay, we're back from the '80s Ü

I worked today from 5:00 - 1:30 - went to the gym, came home, made homemade chicken potpie for dinner, and made North Douglas Chocolate Cake for the dessert auction at Morgan's school - I can bring home the bacon and fry it up in the pan Ü

Sunday, September 7

Lillee & Lorin came over for a visit. We had a great day! We played, made and played with playdough, and made pinwheels. It was great to see them again!

DDDDD Dora

So this was an actual Dora episode.

Dora and her dog Burrito are on the run from the dog catcher - yes, he is really chasing them. Along the way, Dora and Burrito collect 100 keys so that at thend of their journey they can let all of the other dogs out of the kennels. At the end, after Dora and Burrito have released all the puppies, the dog catcher decides he dosn't want to be a dog catcher anymore because he doesn't like it, and decides he wants to be a mailman.

Really Dora?????

Saturday, September 6 - last day of summer

What an amazing day! It got up to 72! I got the tarps and tent hung out to finish drying from the camping trip the weekend before - I'm sure the neighbors who are trying to sell their house and having an open house loved the Clampetts next door.

Morgan enjoyed being outside in her swimsuit!

Angy called to see if we wanted to fishing, so we loaded up the kids and headed out for an evening of fishing out at Amalga Harbor. We had a great time fishing, but no catching. The kids had a blast playing on the beach.

After fishing we decided we'd stop by Lena Beach and make some s'mores. As luck would have it, someone had left a fire going in a pit, so we didn't even have to build our own forward. Of course we paid it forward .... when we were really to go, another party pulled up and didn't have a hatchet to make kindling, so we gave them our spot.

Girls Night!

Went to dinner with the girls tonight! Had a great time! Good food, good conversation! And I'm a better mom for it!
Of course, being a mom, I stoped by the store on my way home and found some DVDs that were on sale buy one get one free - I can't wait to share them with the ghouls! - The Dark Crystal and The Neverending Story

Life in a small town

Pros ........
So today, Morgan's bus driver missed her stop, and dropped her off about 1/4 quarter mile away from our street, on the busy, curvy main road called Back Loop Road (45 mph road!) - on the wrong side of the street! Lucky for us, a good friend saw this and turned around to go and rescue her - but not before she was trying to cross the street! OMG! Grandma Carole - we need you to come and drive bus #27 - seriously - both girls ride on that bus to their different schools!

I love the fact that living in a small community we have eyes to watch each others kids! One time when Devyn was in second grade she had missed the bus, and another mom saw her waiting at the bus stop and from the time she could tell Devyn had missed the bus, so she stopped and gave her a ride to school. I was home and very sick, so Devyn greatly accepted the ride - bless her heart, she didn't want to bother me - so sweet.

Having all these eyes is a great enforcement tool - my kids never know who is watching them and reporting back - and they've been caught in the act before - yes, my angels!

Cons.........
Morgan got her lunchbox at Costco, along with EVERYONE else! So of course today, the 4th day of school it has gone missing - I went down to check the lost and found at school, so hopefully someone will notice her name on the inside and out (I tried to iron on patches to make it unique, but they wouldn't stick!) and return it to its rightful owner.

....... and we're back

I know my blogging has been serious lacking, but here we go for a try!

We had a fabulous summer - with a 3-week vacation to Washington to visit Kevin's family. It was so amazing to be able to spend so much time in one shot with family - we truly had a blast! We celebrated Nanna Poole's 100th birthday - amazing!

Juneau has had a miserable summer - not one dry day the month of July - and MAYBE one day in August up to 70 - and one other day in the 60s - so sad! We have been enjoying the weather - we've been out fishing and playing anyway!

We ended the summer with a camp out with the Loree family at a local campground. The guys had to work, but came out Saturday and Sunday night for dinner. We had fun - Saturday was a beautiful sunny day, but Saturday night got cold, and about 3:00 a.m. Morgan asked if she could get into my sleeping bag, I said, "yes, please!" and my heater kept me warm! Sunday was a nice day, and Sunday night was warmer, but it rained just in time to take down camp. Kevin was great and did some amazing tarp engineering to help protect us!

School started 9/2. Morgan is in the same class as last year, and in first grade - and loving learning! Devyn is an 8th grader now, and is still undecided about her feelings for the school year, but I'm sure she'll settle in!

So here's to blogging on a more regular basis!

Hugs

The Family that Grooms Each Other Stays Together!

We had Lilee over (she'll be 2 at the end of May) on Saturday. We picked her up at 11:00 a.m. and she was going to spend the night. At 3:00, after waking up from her nap, she was sitting on my lap and I found lice in her hair - EWE! I brought her back home and began the battle. After all, while I had been setting up her portable crib in my room, Lillee and Morgan had been rolling all over my bed! UGH! So I proceeded to vacuum everywhere, including the couch, and Kevin cranked up the water heater to 150 degrees and I washed everything twice and dried it in the hottest drier. Morgan was actually okay with her toys being bagged up and put in the garage for 3 weeks (they recommend 2, but we're not taking ANY chances!). Kevin isn't worried about it, of course! So now it's a waiting game begins - to see if we were able to fend off an attack - and Kevin looked through my head tonight, but didn't find anything, and of course I've been itching since Saturday at 3:00! The nurse at Morgan's school offered to check my head, and I may take her up on that!

Boxing Scores

So Hilary was able to defeat Kevin once again - in the first round! Kevin claims that Hilary is somehow cheating, and knows some special cheat that he doesn't! Hilary had him on the ropes! Hilary 2 - Kevin 1

Cooking Class

So I forgot to mention that Kevin & I took a cooking class last week! It is considered a recreational cooking class, so it was just fun, and we had a blast! We made a breakfast strudel with smoked salmon and sourdough pancakes - breakfast for dinner! It is the first time we have strayed from the traditional "dates" of dinner and a movie, and it was fun! I had signed us up for another class in March, but it is working with tofu - which Kevin isn't too hip on - even though I've slipped it in to pad thai and he never even knew!

Catch Up

Sorry it's been so long! We have been busy! Not with anything that is ultra exciting, just general life stuff.

We got a Wii, and we are ALL loving it! Morgan is pretty good, and has beat her sister twice in boxing! Hilary beat Kevin in their first boxing match, but Kevin had to have a rematch and one - so it's a tie, for now!

Last week the girls only had one day of school. We had conferences with their teachers. Both are doing great! Devyn's teacher just raves about how nice she is, and gets along so well with EVERYONE - he says there isn't anyone in class she doesn't get along with! I am so amazed at how far Devyn has progressed with her writing! It was definitely a weak spot, and now she is really blossoming! Morgan's teacher is just amazing, and since Morgan has met all of her core requirements for kindergarten, she is giving her first grade work - which is keeping Mo interested and loving school. In fact, Morgan told me just this morning that she LOVED her teacher! And so lucky for us, it is a looping class, so Morgan will get to stay with that same teacher, they will all just be first graders.

We will try to be better at posting!

Hugs to all!

Kindergarten Wisdom

No cuts, no buts, no coconuts!

This phrase is used to explain that cutting in line is not allowed. This is so appealing coming from a five-year-old's mouth!

Speak & Spell .... 'Memba Him????

So we have a real, live Speak & Spell in our house - Morgan! Since she has begun to read, and consequently spell, she is now trying to spell EVERYTHING! I am no longer just mom, I'm m-o-m, and if she requires both mom and dad, it's m-o-m a-n-d d-a-d, she tell us she l-o-v-e-s us, etc. - she is trying to spell EVERYTHING - it's very cute! I supose we should count our blessings, I've "heard" of children trying to use Speak & Spells to get them to say dirty words Ü

Go Big or Go Home!

Everything Morgan does is Big! Although she is the youngest in her class, she is the tallest! She is in the 98th percentile for her height and weight! She has lost all of her baby fat and is one lean, mean Momo machine!

Morgan sleeps 12 hours a day, minimum - 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. - if she's sick, growing, or run down she will sleep more - seriously, she doesn't even get up to pee! When I put her to bed at 7:00 p.m., she is asleep within 15 minutes! Of course from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. she is non-stop! This is by no means a complaint, simply an observation!

I pack a huge lunch for her everyday! Her lunch is bigger then Devyn's.

For dinner on Friday night she had one full Costco hot dog, a full Costco smoothie, and a spring roll (we don't normally dine at Costco, but mom needed to go shopping!).

Maybe we should change the phrase to go Big Mo or Go Home!

Artiiiiists (spoken with a bad French accent Ü)

Morgan started a signing group at school this morning. They will meet every Wednesday morning through the end of March. She is so very excited about this, and on the drive to school this morning she was telling me several fun musical facts, such as the fact that Beethoven could not hear is own beautiful music! She also listed the names of other people that "illustrated music".

Devyn and I took a one-stroke painting class this evening, and had a blast!

You can see how much fun it was!

Happy New Year

Welcome to our blog!!! We thought we'd start out the new year with a blog as a way to stay in touch and keep our family and friends updated. Our goal is to update it weekly, but as life takes over, it may not be as often!

We had a great holiday season starting with Thanksgiving up in the Anchorage/Palmer area to visit all the new babies that joined our family this year! Hilary's younger brother (Fred) and wife (Allison) had a baby girl, Ella, at the end of May and Hilary's older brother (Bud) and wife (Nancy) had twins, Frankie and Sullivan, the beginning of September. We all had a great time holding babies and even had a chance to visit the indoor water park up in Anchorage wiht Uncle Bud and Aunt Nancy (too bad the twins were just a bit too young to join us - but they wil be out there with us soon!).

We spent Christmas in Sitka with Grandma Ruth, Aunt Kathy, cousins Travis, Jessica & Jessica's fiance Jack, and second cousin Shawn. It was a nice mellow Sitka Christmas.

Devyn celbrated her 13th birthday on December 30th! Her dinner of choice was steamed clams and barbequed ribs - her wish was our command! It's hard to believe we have a teenage girl in the house now - We are not ready for this!

For New Years Eve we had a fun family night and played games. Morgan did not want to take a nap during the day, and did very well trying to stay up until midnight, but at 11:45 she told Grandma Chris that she was going to bed, and promptly took off her glasses and went to bed. Mom and dad missed this announcement, but found her in her bed before she had completely fallen asleep. We got Morgan up and outside for the ringning in of the New Year with sparklers. Morgan's mom was not thinking when she handed out the sparklers to Morgan in her fleece gloves - yikes! The sparklers melted through the gloves and leve two nice second degree burns on her hand - yes, lesson learned by all!

So we are back in the groove of work and school. Morgan has started swimming lessons and is loving it! It is snowing like crazy today, so the girls are having a blast outside!

Take care!
Hilary, Kevin, Devyn & Morgan
